Writing has always been a hobby for Chris Bentley. His first work, written in 2009, was a an insider's look at what people should know before planning a funeral.

Writing that book started Chris thinking about writing historical fiction, which led to years of research and plot development. Most of all, he wanted to write the book that he would want to read. It would need to be full of accurate historical details, have engaging characters, and plenty of action and adventure. From rough draft to a final product that met Chris's own high standards took several more years of painstaking editing and revisions for historical accuracy, internal consistency, plot flow, and grammar. The result is exactly what he intended–readable, exciting, hard to put down, all framed in historical details of both the big picture and the everyday life of Civil War soldiers.
